Since May 2009 the airline Virgin Nigeria offers flights from Nigeria to The Gambia. With Virgin Nigeria you can fly to many other African countries as well as enjoy worldwide connections through its MITA partner airlines. Currently (8/8/2009) Virgina Nigeria flies to the following destinations:

...

Abuja, Accra, Banjul, Calaba, Cotonou, Dakar, Duala, Kano, Lagos, Libreville, Monrovia, Overri, Port Harcourt, Sotoko and to many worldwide travel destinations through interline partnership with Multilateral Interline Traffic Agreement (MITA) member airlines

The airline is based at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) in Lagos. The Virgin Nigeria office in The Gambia is in Bakau on Garba Jahumpa Road, quite in the middle between the Observer junction and Timbooktoo bookshop.

The website offers comfortable online booking features. Virgin Air is providing convenient one stop shop service with one booking to worldwide destinations even if Virgin Nigeria does not operate there direcly. You can enjoy the convenience of one ticket, one currency payment transaction and option to have your bagage checked through to the point of your choice.

According to the Virgin Nigeria website, the airline was established in September 2004 by an agreement between the Nigerian Government and Virginian Atlantic Airways, an international airline owned by Sir Richard Branson and Singapore Airlines. It is (52%) majority owned by Nigerian investors with a 49% share for Virgin Atlantic and the plan to widen the investment scope by public offering on the Nigerian Stock Exchange is on the way. The initial plans included a total investment volume of US$ 50 Mio. and the creation of more than 20.000 jobs directly and through supplier and partner activities.

If you have any experience with Virgin Nigeria, please leave a comment here. Thanks.
